Jacobs Transport from Genk has taken eight new MAN -trucks into service. It is partly an expansion of the fleet and partly a replacement. The investment fits in with the growth strategy that is currently being worked out.
Jacobs Transport is active in passenger transport with coaches and goods transport. Its specialties are coil transport, conventional transport with covered wagons, container transport and refrigerated transport. “Our business has remained fairly stable in these corona times. We experienced a slight drop in volume for a few months with our automotive and steel customers, but are now running at full capacity again,” says Jill Gielen, who was recently appointed commercial director.
“The new trucks were purchased with growth in mind. They are not specifically designed for a particular activity. The trucks are multifunctional so that we can use them to serve customers from different sectors. They bring the fleet to a total of 78 units,” she says. “By the way, we have a lot in store for 2021 in terms of growth strategy and we are planning additional investments.”
The trucks also partially replace existing units. “At Jacobs Transport, trucks are permanently replaced to maintain a young fleet. The vehicles and their drivers are the face of our clients with their end customers. That is why we insist that they look well-groomed and have a professional appearance.”
The Genk-based company chose eight MAN TGX Euro 6 trucks. “They are of the TGX type, but not of the new model that MAN is now putting on the market. The choice not to go for the new model was deliberate: this way we avoid any teething problems.”
“Towards the future, we believe in alternative fuels that have less impact on the environment, but with the possible abolition of the Maut exemption for LNG trucks by the European Commission, we are taking a wait-and-see approach here,” adds Gielen.
